What is an Apostille?
After a convention held in The Hague, Netherlands, on October 5, 1961, 108 countries became members of an international treaty called the Apostille Convention. According to this treaty, certain documents issued in one of the signatory countries can be certified for legal purposes in all the other signatory country members.
The United States has been a member of this treaty since 1981.
An Apostille is an international certification comparable to a notarization in domestic law. It certifies the signature, the capacity of the signer and the seal or stamp it bears.
