Michael’s career in public accounting began in 1980 when he joined Belfint, Lyons & Shuman, P.A. as an intern. He became a principal in 1989 and was named a director in 1994. With his extensive public accounting experience, Michael specializes in tax advisory, accounting and management consulting services for small to medium-sized companies and year-round tax and financial planning services for individuals. His numerous client responsibilities include many closely held businesses in the construction, fitness, real estate, manufacturing and professional service industries. As one of the firm’s small business experts, Michael works with existing and start-up companies to develop and implement financial plans that help the owners meet their specific business and personal goals. Within the firm, Michael is a member of the firm’s executive committee.
A graduate of the University of Delaware with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting, Michael received his Certified Public Accountant certificate from the state of Delaware in 1984. His professional activities include memberships in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Wilmington Tax Group and the Delaware Society of Certified Public Accountants (DSCPA). He has presented numerous seminars on various topics including accounting, tax and business consulting to many business and professional groups throughout the area and has served as a panelist for annual tax meetings for IGAF Worldwide.
As an active member of the community, Michael coaches and is involved with many youth sports activities including service as a board member and treasurer of Midway Girls Softball Association. He has also served as an officer, board member and standing committee member for several nonprofit organizations. He frequently assists with fund raising efforts for various charitable groups and has been involved in a local contractors association.
