Maria T. Hurd, CPA
Director - Retirement Plan Audit Services

As director in charge of Employee Benefit Plan services at Belfint, Lyons & Shuman, Maria is responsible for planning, supervising and reviewing audits of single and multi-employer benefit plans. She also provides benefit plan design and implementation consultations and recommendations to clients. To stay abreast of changing ERISA regulations, Maria attends numerous educational courses and conferences, including the AICPA/DOL National Employee Benefit Plan conference and the American Society of Pension Actuaries conference. She has also prepared and taught several courses on topics such as auditing employee benefit plans and preparing Form 5500s. Maria has authored articles for several local business publications.

Maria's professional memberships include the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Delaware Society of Certified Public Accountants, the American Society of Pension Professionals and Administrators, the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans, the ASPPA Benefits Council of Greater Philadelphia, of which she is a current Board Member, and the Wilmington Tax Group, of which she is the past President and past Treasurer. She is involved in various community organizations and serves as Board Member and Finance Committee Chair of the Skating Club of Wilmington.

Maria graduated cum laude from Georgetown University with Bachelor of Science degrees in Accounting and International Management. She received her Certified Public Accounting designation in 1992.
