In 1986 at the age of 28, Michael earned the distinction of being the youngest person elected a director at Belfint, Lyons & Shuman, P.A. Today, Michael specializes in providing accounting and management consulting services to businesses and nonprofit organizations. He also serves as chair of the accounting & auditing department at Belfint, Lyons & Shuman. Clients value Michael’s ability to draw on his experiences as a fellow business owner and his ability to build a good business rapport with their staff and board of directors. Whether performing an operational review, evaluating a company’s internal controls or developing a business succession plan, Michael works with clients to help them achieve their business growth and wealth accumulation goals.
Michael is actively involved in numerous professional and business organizations. He has held leadership positions within many of these organizations, including serving as past president of the Delaware Society of Certified Public Accountants (DSCPA) and past Council Member for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). He is currently a board member on the Delaware State Board of Accountantcy after the governor's appointment in 2008. Michael is also involved in the Caesar Rodney Rotary Club and the Wilmington Tax Group.
Within the community, Michael has served on the board of directors for several nonprofit organizations. Michael is a co-founder of the Delaware High School Swim Coaches Association and the A.I. duPont High School Swimming and Diving program. Michael was voted “Coach of the Year” four times by other swim coaches. He is also past president of the Blue Hen Touchdown Club.
Michael holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from the University of Delaware.
