Belfint, Lyons & Shuman, P.A. (BLS), a certified public accounting and consulting firm with offices in Delaware and Pennsylvania, started 2021 with the following well-earned promotions, certification achievement, and new hire announcement.

• Saaib T. Uppal, CPA, QKA has been promoted to Manager in the firm’s Accounting & Auditing Department. Saaib will celebrate his 10th BLS anniversary in June 2021. His career is highly focused in the firm’s employee benefit plan (EBP) practice group, where he excels technically and is a valued resource to clients. In addition to his CPA license, he has earned the QKA and AICPA DC credentials. Saaib regularly contributes to the Firm’s EBP Blog, The Art of the Qualified Plan Audit, to the ongoing training of our developmental staff, and to the firm’s summer internship program. He earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master’s degree in Accounting from the University of Delaware and resides in Bear, Delaware.
• Emily V. Schmidt, CPA, CFE has been promoted to Supervisor in the firm’s Accounting & Auditing Department. She will celebrate her 6th BLS anniversary in June 2021. Emily provides financial reporting, audit/assurance, and tax services to individuals, small businesses, and nonprofits. She has earned the Certified Forensic Examiner (CFE) certification in addition to her CPA license. Emily has a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Delaware and currently resides in Newark, Delaware.
• Amy L. Gordon, CPA rejoined the firm as a Supervisor in the firm’s Tax & Small Business Department. Amy provides compliance and planning services to individuals, small businesses, estates and trusts, and nonprofits. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from University of Delaware and a Master’s degree in Taxation from the Villanova School of Business. She currently resides in Pike Creek, Delaware.
• Tyler J. Starr, CPA, QKA earned his QKA (Qualified 401(k) Administrator) credential, which is given by the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries (ASPPA). Tyler is a member of the firm’s Employee Benefit Plan niche within the Accounting & Auditing department where he specializes in auditing employee benefit plans of for-profit, nonprofit, and governmental entities. He earned his Bachelor of Science degrees in Accounting and Finance from West Chester University. Tyler currently resides in Wilmington, Delaware.
